Current Solo Exhibition:

Mike has been invited by the New Bedford Whaling Museum to have a solo exhibition of his work from December 10, 2009 - May 31, 2010 titled "Mike Mazer- Waterfront Works". This is the first exhibit of contemporary marine art held at this history museum. Mike will be showing 33 of his watercolors depicting scenes from New Bedford's working waterfront.

An Artist's Reception will be held on Thursday, May 13 5:30-7:30 pm in the San Francisco Room

In his foreward, the President of the Museum, James Russell said: " How does a history museum like ours engage with contemporary artists in the region? This is ia question with which we are wrestling. While accustomed to looking back through the long lens of history at the great age of sail, now we adjust our focal point to bring the story into the sharp focus of today, as this exhibition demonstrates.  Not 100 yards from where these paintings hang, the great whalers of yesteryear were berthed, that have long since bowed out to give way to this modern fleet".

New Bedford Whaling Museum Accepts Donation

Recently, The American Society of Marine Artists held their annual meeting at the New Bedford Whaling Museum where one of its members, Mattapoisett artist, Mike Mazer, donated three of his paintings to the Museum .  The watercolors depict views of the Whaling Museum’s new façade, the old façade and New Bedford Harbor with the Museum in the background.  NBWM President, James Russell is “delighted to have this prominent artist in their collection”, and gratified that he chose the Whaling Museum. The paintings were originally created as part of a solo exhibition Mike previously had at the New Bedford Art Museum consisting of historic sites of New Bedford and scenes of the South Coast.
